  • RESPONSIBILITIES
    POSITION SUMMARY The Accountant works in the Finance Department. Under the direction of the CEO/General Manager, the Accountant will perform duties as assigned including but not limited to reporting and financials.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Observes and practices all safety policies.
    • Files tax forms and remits tax payments (990, 940, 941, IA Withholding, SUTA, FUTA, Sales Tax, Use Tax, W-2/W-3/1099/1096, 1095B/1094B, etc.).
    • Completes regulatory reporting (RUS Form 7, IUB EC-1, U.S. Department of Energy EIA-861, etc.).
    • Responsible for annual audit procedure.
    • Coordinates annual budget preparation process.
    • Reconciles GL account to subsidiary ledgers.
    • Monitors cash flows and banking transactions.
    • Prepares Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position (month-end close process).
    • Prepares ledgers, journals, registers, and subsidiary records (including assets and depreciation) in conformance with generally accepted accounting practices and procedures.
    • Applies accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
    • Stays current on the RUS system of accounts and accounting practices.
    • Supports Consumers Energy’s mission statement and demonstrates the co-op’s core values of teamwork, accountability, safety, integrity, and commitment.
    • Any and all other duties as assigned.

  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Education:
    • A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
    • A bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
      Experience:
    • Prior accounting or financial experience is required.
    • Experience in electric cooperative accounting is desirable.
    • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work on several tasks at once.
      Alcohol and Drug Testing:
    • As a condition of employment this position is subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

    • Must believe in, be sympathetic with, and be interested in furthering the cooperative’s objectives.
    • Must have a desire to work with and be of service to the cooperative’s members at all times.

    • Must have the ability to work independently.
      Knowledge:
    • Must be knowledgeable in Excel and Word.
    • Must possess a basic knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles. A background in accounting is beneficial.
    • Must obtain a working knowledge of the cooperative’s computer system.
    • Must obtain and possess a working knowledge of records and filing systems, along with general office procedures.
      Abilities and Skills:
    • Must be able to work eight-hours-a-day, and after regular working hours as needed.
    • Must be able to travel occasionally as needed for conferences and training.
    • Must have basic mathematical skills to make calculations and analyses and be skilled in spreadsheet and graphics software.
    • Should have a working knowledge of various types of office equipment.
      Environmental Conditions:
    • Most of the normal duties will be performed inside in normal office conditions, which will involve interaction with other employees and/or the public with frequent interruptions.
      Physical:
    • Must possess visual acuity and manual dexterity as well as the ability to listen and communicate effectively.
    • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods.
    • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat and lift from 10 to 20 pounds.
