Summer 2020 Cooperative Course – Foundations of Cooperatives

SESSION 1: Foundations of Cooperatives LIVE Tuesday, May 26: 7:30am Presented by Dr. Keri Jacobs Can cooperatives continue to be relevant in an era of business conglomerates, acquisitions, and direct-to-consumer commerce? We will explore the features of cooperative businesses that make this business model a workhorse in agriculture and the best kept secret in capitalist economies. Dr. Keri L. Jacobs is associate professor and extension economist in the Department of Economics at ISU and the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Endowed Economics Professor. In her role at ISU, she is an undergraduate educator, researcher, and extension specialist with a focus on cooperatives. 2020 IIC Scholarship Application Deadline

The Iowa Institute for Cooperatives will be awarding at least 8 - $2000 scholarships this summer. The awards will be given to students who have had an internship or work experience program at a cooperative who is a member of the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives. These scholarships are open to all IIC member cooperatives regardless of industry sector or location. Application deadline has passed.  Winners will be announced mid-September 2020.

Getting Back to Work and Taking Leave in Coronavirus Era Workshop

CFO Controller Webinar Series Nov 18

Our first webinar on November 18th will feature Jim Knuth, Senior Vice President, Farm Credit Services of America and Tanner Ehmke, Manager, CoBank Knowledge Exchange Division. This session will run from 10:00-11:30 AM. Jim and Tanner will present and update us on what things look like for the farmer after a year of COVID and weather events and follow that all the way through the supply chain to the co-op and beyond. Those of you that have heard Jim and Tanner speak before know that they have a wealth of knowledge to share and provide a very interactive session. An abbreviated governance-focused meeting will take place on Dec. 3 and will include reports from the Board and management, a financial update and a member interaction session.
