Advanced Director Training – Financial Statement Notes

The goal of the Advanced Director Training programs offered by the IIC is to extend the knowledge and understanding of issues cooperative board of directors will address within their responsibilities on the board. We spend a full day on a single topic/issue and bring in experts to explain, clarify and answer your questions. This year we are offering Advanced Director Training- Financial Statement Notes  and other topics of importance within your audit that will help you become more familiar with this information source. Dennis Gardiner, Managing Partner, Gardiner + Company and Stacey Webster, Director of Co-op Development for IIC, will be your speakers for the day. The program will include: • Review of the different kinds of financial statement reports • Review of different audit opinions • Review of financial statement notes • The role and duties of audit committee • Impact of your investments on financial statements • Various audit letters Dennis and Stacey have planned table top and group exercises with real world examples to illustrate the topics and encourage discussion. Webinar-COVID 19 Legislation for Small Employers

A Review of COVID-19 Legislation for Small Employers Kristine Tidgren, will present an overview of recent legislation offering relief to small employers, including the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and various provisions within the CARES Act. Specifically she will address family/medical leave and sick leave requirements, including the associated credits, as well as the employee retention credit, the paycheck protection program, and payroll tax deferral. A goal of the webinar will be to educate attendees on which options may be available and in what combination. This event has occurred the slides and recording are available on our COVID 19 page.

Summer 2020 Cooperative Course – Foundations of Cooperatives

SESSION 1: Foundations of Cooperatives LIVE Tuesday, May 26: 7:30am Presented by Dr. Keri Jacobs Can cooperatives continue to be relevant in an era of business conglomerates, acquisitions, and direct-to-consumer commerce? We will explore the features of cooperative businesses that make this business model a workhorse in agriculture and the best kept secret in capitalist economies. Dr. Keri L. Jacobs is associate professor and extension economist in the Department of Economics at ISU and the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Endowed Economics Professor. In her role at ISU, she is an undergraduate educator, researcher, and extension specialist with a focus on cooperatives. 2020 IIC Scholarship Application Deadline

The Iowa Institute for Cooperatives will be awarding at least 8 - $2000 scholarships this summer. The awards will be given to students who have had an internship or work experience program at a cooperative who is a member of the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives. These scholarships are open to all IIC member cooperatives regardless of industry sector or location. Application deadline has passed.  Winners will be announced mid-September 2020.

Getting Back to Work and Taking Leave in Coronavirus Era Workshop

IIC members, please join us on August 27th for a webinar with Mary Funk of Nyemaster Goode.  Mary will provide a refresher on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act(FFCRA), Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and EFLMA along with helping to answer questions as you bring employees back to work or as employees may need to take leave in a coronavirus era.
