Summer 2020 Cooperative Course – Foundations of Cooperatives

SESSION 1: Foundations of Cooperatives
LIVE Tuesday, May 26: 7:30am
Presented by Dr. Keri Jacobs

Can cooperatives continue to be relevant in an era of business conglomerates, acquisitions, and direct-to-consumer commerce? We will explore the features of cooperative businesses that make this business model a workhorse in agriculture and the best kept secret in capitalist economies.

Dr. Keri L. Jacobs is associate professor and extension economist in the Department of Economics at ISU and the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Endowed Economics Professor. In her role at ISU, she is an undergraduate educator, researcher, and extension specialist with a focus on cooperatives. Her research focuses on the financial and equity conditions of agricultural cooperatives, agribusiness consolidation and farm level production decisions under uncertainty.
